GKN Driveline offers a CV Joint Solution to suit all vehicle types. We outline some examples.
Premium rear-wheel drive
This VL3 sideshaft system provides a premium solution for high performance rear-wheel driven vehicles. The VL3 plunging joints in combination with their compact sealing system and a Monobloc Tubular Shaft (MTS) provide a small packaging, low weight and an adapted NVH behaviour. The outboard joint can also be combined with the new face spline design which offers additional functional and performance benefits for connection to the wheel hub.
Off-road all-wheel drive
The VLX ball plunging joint is the most compact joint for all-wheel drive rear sideshafts on the market. It is optimised for high strength with adapted endurance, especially designed for hang-on all-wheel drive solutions. Assembled into a RWD consisting of two VLX joints, barshaft and compact sealing systems, the customer can benefit from reduced weight and size achieved maintaining premium NVH performance including lowest backlash.
Front-wheel drive small city car
This sideshaft concept combines the proven UF type fixed joint on the outboard side (robust and cost-effective baseline solution for up to 50° maximum articulation angle) with the NVH benefits of the AAR plunging joint on the differential side. In combination with a Monobloc Tubular Shaft (MTS), this provides a very good choice for front-wheel driven vehicles or for the front axle of all wheel driven vehicles where smooth driveability and robust performance are the main drivers for the application.
Sports utility vehicles
Sport utility vehicles (SUV) of the new generation are combining high level of ride comfort with the occasional off road capability. With the required suspension design and the resulting wheel travel the performance requirement exceeds the traditional sideshaft design limits. The solution with countertrack- and SIO-joints and a ballspline plunge device provides the necessary high articulation and long plunge capability to suit these applications. The ballspline also ensures the highest level of NVH refinement.
Standard rear-wheel drive
For special low cost rear wheel drive vehicle applications, the GI-GI sideshaft provides a superior niche solution. This sideshaft is fully adapted to the specific vehicle requirements, offering adequate NVH, strength and durability in smallest packaging. Latest state-of-the-art manufacturing technology and sealing system ensure high robustness and reliability.
