Chery Tech Forum

Identifying and recognising the dynamics on the Chinese automotive market, GKN was pleased to
hold a Tech Forum at one of the fastest growing car companies world wide - Chery.
Chery was founded in 1997 in the city of Wuhu, in China’s Anhui Province, and since then has
expanded rapidly. First cars were produced in 1999 using licenses from SEAT.
By 2005 about 13,000 people worked at two manufacturing plants and company assets stood at
11.8 billion Yuan, equivalent to about 750 million £. A third manufacturing plant is planned to
achive targets of one million units built in 2010. The average age of employees working for Chery
is 24 years.
Along with GKN Driveline Torque Technology and GKN Driveline Driveshaft’s stands GKN Sinter
Metals displayed their products in the entrance hall of Chery’s R & D centre, where 2,000
people work. Presentations were made by representatives of GKN Sinter Metals and GKN Driveline.
Chery employees were very interested an both, GKN Driveline and GKN Sinter Metal products.
Chery’s president and General Manager, Yin Tongyao, took an extended tour through the GKN displays.
