Who is the FPI scheme for?

The FPI scheme is designed for graduates with a very good/good first degree/masters in Industrial or Mechanical Engineering, interested in a career in automotive engineering. Although there can be no guarantee of employment at the end of the programme, many participants go on to successful careers in GKN, and the automotive industry in general.

FPI applicants are expected to meet the following criteria:

  • Technical know-how:
    A graduate in Mechanical or Industrial Engineering
    Motivated to extend your know-how and expand your technical skills
    A technical apprenticeship or internship would also be advantageous
  • Entrepreneurial mindset and practice:
    Can recognise opportunities and take calculated risks
    Can develop and implement constructive solutions to problems
    Happy to take responsibility and learn from experience
    With good self-confidence, self-awareness, and the willingness to see things from different viewpoints
  • Enthusiasm and powers of persuasion
  • Communicative team player:

    Open minded and willing to work internationally
    A good level of German and English is required, with further languages useful
    Basic German language skills (at least), with further languages useful
    Ability to work with others to achieve common goals
    Ability to present your ideas effectively to your team, and to actively support the ideas of others

  • Mobility and flexibility
