FPI - "Forderprogramm Fur Ingenieure" German Graduate Scheme

What is the FPI scheme?

The excellence of German automotive engineering is acknowledged around the world, which makes the FPI scheme an outstanding opportunity for enterprising graduates.

The FPI graduate scheme, run by GKN Driveline in Germany, offers:

  • Graduate-level entry
  • An orientation in automotive engineering
  • A practical learning programme through hands-on project participation
  • Successful candidates will undertake four or five projects over a two-year period. Most of these will take place at different GKN Driveline sites in Germany, with one project based in another country.

Every successful candidate will receive an individually tailored programme of technical education, automotive orientation, and personal development. Whichever path of study you choose to follow your programme will feature:

  • Individual coaching sessions with your personal supervisor
  • Access to the assistance and expertise of GKN staff through mentoring
  • Advanced training and education both on and off the job

Personal Development

The two years of the FPI programme are packed with technical education, practical learning, and on and off the job training. To take full advantage of this great opportunity, a well thought-out Personal Development Plan (PEP = personlicher Entwicklungsplan) is essential. Your Personal Development Plan will help you clarify your professional ambitions; identify the experience you need to develop in order to achieve them; and keep you focussed on those goals throughout. One of the first key tasks of your FPI Manager, your mentor, and your FPI Project Supervisor, will be to agree the first draft of your Personal Development Plan with you.

Advanced Training Programme

There are many different elements to choose from on the FPI, depending on the skill set and professional abilities you wish to develop. Options include:

  • Teambuilding
  • Project management
  • Effective speaking and presentation skills
  • Products and processes
  • Business simulation courses
  • Community projects
