Testing
Through our global research and product development centres located in Asia, Europe and North America, GKN Driveline develops solutions to improve driveshaft and torque technologies for the future.
For our driveshaft products our goal is to reduce product size and weight, whilst optimising durability and strength, and improving NVH performance. We also develop crash optimised propshafts.
For our geared power transmission and torque management products we focus on stability, reliability, traction, comfort, handling and environmental improvements.
Our new products are proven using a variety of testing methods including virtual and physical testing and analysis, through CAE tools as well as latest technology testing rigs.
Our research and product development capabilities include:
Application Engineering
- Performance prediction
- Simulation
- Crash
- Hardware-in-the-loop
- Packaging
- Digital mock-up
Process Development
- Laser welding
- Induction hardening
- Cold forming
- Combined hard machining
Torque technology innovations are also tested in our annual winter test programme in Sweden, and on demand in Sault St Marie, Michigan; Arizona; Death Valley, California and at our own proving ground in Oyama, Japan.
Our winter test facility is located at the Colmis Proving Ground in Arjeplog, Sweden. It includes a wide range of test tracks:
